Tim Jackson- Masiguy

Jonathan et al,

Excellent comments and very much the sort of thing you and I have discussed before and the kind of thing I have posted about.

Here's the dilemma; too much Lance is bad when he leaves racing. His departure is going to create a huge vacuum and if the industry has placed all its eggs in the Lance basket, it is going to have those eggs scrambled.

My personal belief is that we need to be identifying other riders as immediate replacements and future replacements. On top of that, we need to get back to the idea that riding a bike is fun and that you ride a bike because YOU like to, not because Lance is in France every July winning a race.

Like most folks in the industry, I am very thankful for the fact Lance has done so much to reinvigorate the industry and road cycling specifically (especially since all I do is make and sell road bikes), but I am curious and a little nervous about what will happen when Tex is not racing anymore.

If all of the marketing is about Lance, will the public remain interested in his golf game and his stock portfolio when he isn't racing anymore?

Let's build up some other people, places and events for the public to be excited about. Otherwise, the industry will go back to withering up.
